Parts of speech contains words that have distinctive meanings and functions that, together, makes a sentence clear. There are 8 parts of speech in the English grammar and are as follows: noun, pronoun, verb, adverb, adjective, conjunction, preposition, and interjection.
A preposition is a word or phrase that allows you to connect two nouns or nouns and pronouns. Sometimes a preposition answers the question of how, when, where, which one, and what kind.
ex: The cookies in the grocery bag are Molly’s.
The preposition, “in the grocery bag,” answers “which ones” or the cookies.
ex: My dance recital starts after school.
The preposition, “after school,” answers “when” the recital starts.
ex: He will be traveling to the Bahamas.
The preposition, “to the Bahamas,” answers “where” he is traveling to.
