  1. What is it that makes me unique? I am a human being just like everyone else on Earth but I have certain traits that set me apart from others. One of my traits is my drive for action and adventure. Another trait of mine that sets me apart from other people is the fact that i’m Polish. My selfless nature is another trait that often sets me apart from the people around me. These three traits are the ones that most often separate me from others and help make me unique.

I have always perceived myself as a fun loving and adventurous person. Throughout my life I’ve done plenty of things that many people aren’t able to do on a day by day basis. Back when I was in high school I was presented with an opportunity to acquire my Scuba Diving license. My sister and brother-in-law were both already certified and since we lived in New Zealand I thought why not go for it as well. The course took a couple of months and challenged both my mental and physical limits. In the end it was well worth it and I got fully certified as an open water diver. This would prove to come in handy when I accompanied my sister and brother-in-law on one of their internships in Kona, Hawaii. We ended up going Manta Ray night diving which was one of the most exhilarating and unique things I have done to this day. I have not met many people that have their Scuba Diving license which makes me feel even more unique.

Being Polish is something that I have prided myself on countless times throughout my life. The language, history, and lifestyle is something that I have carried with myself and have been able to share with my friends and family throughout the years. The various traditional meals are one of the most unique things about being Polish. My friends have always asked me what kind of food Polish people eat and they are always surprised by what I tell them. The language is also a lot different from English and the fact that I can speak both Polish and English means that I am bi-lingual which is another important trait tying into me being Polish. Knowing that a lot of people aren’t familiar with the Polish language and lifestyle are both very important things in making me feel unique.

Throughout my life I have had a tendency to put others before myself even if it didn’t always turn out the best for me. This sort of selfless behavior has often drawn people to me who in turn have told me that “I am easy to talk to.” This particular trait is probably the most important one to me because it signifies to me that I am a good person and that others enjoy my company. Everyday there are people that only care about themselves and see things as their way or the ‘high’ way. I am proud to say that I have never viewed myself as one of those people and even though I am not the only one who is like this, being selfless is a very important trait that I consider to separate me from others.

So yes there are people in the world that surely have some of the traits that I have, but there is not another person that combines them like me. These three traits help compose the person that I am today and without them I wouldn’t be able to distinguish myself from others. They have taught me that I am different from the rest of the crowd and that I am unique. This sense of uniqueness is one that I will always cherish and hope to build on for the rest of my life.

    1. Lukas, I loved your post. What sets an individual apart from another is his or her birthplace, culture, and the people that leave a mark in the life of that individual. I was born and raised here in Chicago, but I still grew up with my parents’ culture and traditions. I also seek out for adventure as I really enjoy being outdoors, I’m reserved but outspoken if I need to be, and I’m highly organized with my day completely booked while appreciating a change in plan.

In terms of your writing skills, what I want you to work on is mainly your punctuation marks. I take it that you prefer not to use commas? Haha, I’m kidding. Commas are really important and you can think of them as a pause, or pauses, in your thoughts. For example, in the second sentence of the first paragraph, I would change it to “Throughout my life, I’ve done plenty of things that many people aren’t able to do on a day-to-day basis.” Try reading your sentences out loud and see if that will make a difference. Great job on your response!
